Spring Break in Central Europe

Central Europe | World Studies in English

Dates: February 25 – March 7, 2026
Location: Berlin, Germany, Prague, Czechia, & Krakow, Poland
Cost: $3,100

Requirements: In order to attend a Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program, students must have a 2.5 or higher GPA. Questions regarding this policy may be directed to Emily Dunn (dunn_ea@mercer.edu).

Participants in this program will travel to all the 3 countries mentioned above during spring break 2026 for a first-hand exploration of the history and culture of three preeminent metropolitan areas (Berlin, Prague, Krakow). Students will examine important historical sites, stunning architecture and cultural sites in a vibrant atmosphere, such as: Checkpoint point Charlie (US Army Checkpoint), Bundestag/Neuhauser building, Brandenburg Gate, Berlin wall, Prague Castle, Charles bridge, the Kafka Museum, St. Mary’s Basilica, historic Wawel Castle, the Wieliczka Salt mine and the somber but important Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial and museum located outside the city of Kakow, to name a few.

During this one-week program, students will:

Walking tour focusing on the Reichstag, the Holocaust, Topography of terror, Hackescher Markt, James Simon Park, Third Reich and Cold War
Charles Bridge
Prague Castle
the Jewish quarters (the old synagogue)
Kafka Museum
House of the Black Madonna
Old town hall with Astronomical clock
Karolinun (Charles University)
St. Mary’s Basilica
historic Wawel Castle
the Wieliczka Salt mine
Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial and museum

WLC 195: World Cultural Studies in English

Catalog Description:

A study of Francophone, Hispanic, or Greco-Roman culture taught in English. Students will (1) examine the nature of the culture involved through analysis of and reflection on significant actions, ideas, and sources; (2) investigate how the culture under study helped shape the development of the West over centuries; and (3) be exposed to perspectives and forces that drive intercultural exchange. Students must engage in projects or assignments requiring at least one contact hour, or equivalent, per week for every hour of credit. May be repeated; does not count toward any world language major or minor. May be offered abroad.

*Tuition is dependent upon your current enrollment and your colleges tuition fees for the semester of your program. If you are enrolled as a traditional undergrad on the Macon campus, the 1 credit for this program will go towards your overall 12-18 credits for the semester and will not create an increase in tuition cost as long as your overall amount of credits (including this 1 credit course) does not go over 18 credits.
