Language Requirement: Minimum SPN 252 completed before program start

Requirements: In order to attend a Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program, students must have a 2.5 or higher GPA. Questions regarding this policy may be directed to Emily Dunn (dunn_ea@mercer.edu).

Students will have the unique opportunity to experience Spanish culture through coursework in Spanish, local study visits, diverse cultural activities, living with local Spanish families, and bilingual on-site support.
Included:

Flamenco show, Cathedral, Royal Palace, Roman ruins, Metropol Parasol, Fine Arts Museum, bus tour, Hospital de la Caridad, Bullring Museum, and more
A two-night study trip to Madrid (Prado Museum, Royal Palace) and Toledo (Cathedral, Sephardic Museum, Santo Tome Church)
A day excursion to Cordoba (Mosque, Synagogue/Jewish Quarter, Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos)

Mercer University
SPN 353S: Real Language Application/Use and Translation
(3 credit hours)- Dr. Alvarez

Course Description:
PN-353S is a three credit-hour course which is taught during the Mercer Faculty Led Summer Study Abroad Program to Seville, Spain. This course is intended to continue the enhancement and refinement of the four language skills (e.g. speaking, listening, reading and writing) as well as cultural elements found in the host country. Throughout this course, students will explore cultural and linguistic elements based on their experience in the program and their contact with the host families. Classroom discussions will be supplemented with readings from newspapers, magazines, movies, art, etc. which highlight the political, social and cultural currents in today’s Spain. By the end of the course, students should be able to have specific knowledge and understanding of cultural/historical and linguistic elements experienced in the program. Students are also expected to communicate meaningfully with native speakers of Spanish.
