Summer in Northern Ireland| Journalism and Integrative Studies

Location: Dublin, Ireland and Belfast and Derry, Northern Ireland (United Kingdom)
Cost: $3,200

JMS 145 – News Literacy

3 credit hours

Course Description

An introduction to key journalistic characteristics, such as verification, accountability, independence, and multiple perspectives, that distinguish real news from other forms of information. Students will examine the role of a free press in a democracy and the protections provided to journalists by the First Amendment. Critical-thinking skills necessary for judging the reliability of news accounts are emphasized.

INT 201 – Building Community

4 credit hours

Course Description

Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or better in INT 101, GBK 101, EGR 107, or TCO 141.
Students will study issues of the public good and propose solutions for building and maintaining community. By examining works from multiple domains, students will explore and reflect on the complexity of contentious issues and the use of civil and effective communication. As a Writing Instruction course, substantial attention will be given to developing skills in writing.

*Tuition is dependent upon your current enrollment and your colleges tuition fees for the semester of your program. If you are enrolled as a traditional undergrad on the Macon campus, the 4 credits for this program will be charged at $566 (tuition) per credit hour and $12.50 (facility and technology fees) per credit hour (total of $2,314).
